Test Format & Structure
The DET assesses four key language skills using an adaptive system that adjusts difficulty based on your answers. The test lasts 45-60 minutes.
1. Adaptive Test (45 minutes)
- Read and complete missing words
- Listen and type the spoken sentence
- Describe an image in writing or speech
- Speak a sentence after listening to an audio clip
- Write short and long responses to prompts
2. Writing & Speaking Sample (10 minutes)
This section records a video interview and a written response, which are shared with universities as part of your score report.
